Lord Commey’s Boys Behind ₵700M Scandal Unmasked
The Anchor has unmasked two young men parading themselves as middlemen allegedly working for the Director of Operations at the presidency, Mr. Lord Oblitey Commey, who are being accused of swindling unsuspecting businessperson of huge sums of money, under the pretence of securing them juicy government contracts through their boss.
The two Jubilee House conmen whose names are given as Kojo Kris and Stephen Boah, are said to have been code-named“4” & “5” by which their master Mr. Commey prefers to call them.
The nefarious activities of the gang came to fore after they allegedly succeeded taking a whopping ¢700 million old cedis from a businessman with a promise to secure him a contract from the Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Gas and or BOST, through Director of Operations at the Seat of Ghana Government, Lord Commey.
According to the businessman, Kris and Boah had initially charged him GH¢100,000 as the fixed amount accepted by their boss before any meeting leading to the contract.
Mr. Prince Baffour Acheamfour, who spoke to The Anchor in an exclusive interview, lamented that more than one year down the line, both the Director of Operations and his boys have failed to honour their promises after receiving the money.
He told this paper, all efforts to either get the contract or the money refunded, have proved futile, as Chris and Boah have gone into hiding.
Acheamfour said, the money was paid to Lord Commey’s boys on Friday, March 12, 2021.
The businessman narrated that, prior to payment, the middlemen told him the only way he could get opportunity to meet Mr. Commey and secure the contract is when he pays GH¢100,000. He said, the boys have boasted to him that was the process many have passed through, before getting contracts from Mr. Commey.
“So, they asked me to pay money, I was like wow, why don’t you give me the contract so I pay your percentage out of the contract? They said NO, Lord Commey will never accept that. So, I raised GH¢70,000. They told him, within two weeks, Lord will give me contract”.
He told The Anchor how he struggled to raise the money, a situation that led him to sell off his slightly used Honda Accord salon car at a very cheap price out of desperation to get the contract.
According to Baffour, true to the words of the boys, the very day he paid the money with video evidence, same day in the evening, they arranged for the meeting where he met Mr Lord Commey for first time, in his private office at Zodiac, an area within Dansoman in Accra.
“When I was entering his office, he has a policeman who took my phone, gave me a hand sanitizer and asked me to enter; so, I entered with a guy called Kwabena or Kay. So, the guys introduced me to Lord, and he said in the twi language…”Ei mo wo sika die”, to wit; “do you people have money”? So, the money was paid before they took me there,” the businessman narrated.
Baffour said, after their first meeting, Mr. Commey again invited him for another meeting at the Jubilee House and later at his residence in Dansoman on three different occasions.
He mentioned that, during the meeting in his office at the presidency, Mr. Commey introduced him to his Special Assistant, one Nana Yaw Achampong and told him that he [Baffour] is a businessman in the energy sector and that they will be working with him in the next four years. He then asked Nana Yaw to liaise with him, where they exchange contacts.
“So, the following week, he [Lord Commey] asked that I come to the Jubilee House. That was the first time I enter Jubilee House. He called one guy named Nana Yaw and he told him that meet Mr. Baffour. For the next four years, this department will be working with Mr. Baffour’s company. We will be giving it contract. And he was like, Baffour, if we give you the contract; make sure you give me my percentage”.
He indicated that following the meetings, he was asked to prepare letter and deliver them to these state institutions in the energy sector and tell them that, the letters are coming from the office of the Director of Operations at the presidency; which he obliged.
“He asked me what do I do; I told him am into the energy sector; oil and gas. And he said… oh have I identified any projects, I answered yes; some are in ECG, VRA, BOST etc. So, he said okay, this is what I want you to do: Write an application, bring and let me minute it that it is coming from Director of Operations, Lord Commey, which I took some to ECG”.
According to Baffour, months later when the contract was not forthcoming, he became alarmed and started chasing them including Lord Commey himself.
He told The Anchor that after one year, when he was still not given the contract, he indicated to them that since the contract is not coming, then his money should be returned to him.
The businessman said, it was at this point that Lord Commey seemingly got upset, invited him to Jubilee House again, and told him bluntly that, he did not receive any money from him [Baffour], therefore, he should look for the people he paid the money to, and take it from them.
He said, Lord Commey strangely denied knowledge of knowing the very guys who actually brought him to him after paying the money.
“Lord told me, “I have not taken your money, you can take me to anywhere, I don’t know these guys; but because of where I was, I didn’t want to react”.
Mr. Baffour, however, admitted that he did not give the money to Lord Commey directly; but it was one of his boys, Boah who came for the money and was captured on video.
He stated that, when he confronted the boys they also insisted that they handed the money to their boss, Lord Commey. He vowed to take back his money at all cost, as he confirmed, the matter has been reported to the police.
But when this paper contacted Kojo Kris, he denied taking any money from Mr. Baffour. He said, this matter has gone to police station, A-plus and so many places, adding; “it has gone far, but they are not saying the fact of the whole thing.
According to him, “one boy called Boah, came to tell me that he has gotten some guy call Baffour and he works at Rocksure Company, and he said he want a contract. So, he wants my company to sign with his own company so that we join together. So that when the contract happens whatever percentage that comes up, we share. I said ok, it’s a good idea.”
“But before you get such contracts, unless you see our boss [Lord Commey]: So, the first day, Boah came with Baffour himself and a certain boy called Kwabena, then they went to Mr. Lord and Baffour said am this and am that. But Boah told me that, we don’t go to an elderly person just like that, because [when] you are going and you need job. So, because of that, Boah said Baffour has raised some money so that when we meet [boss] he can give it to him.
“So he was there and after two weeks, Boah said to me, Baffour has raised GH¢70,000”.
He stated that it was Boah and Baffour themselves who came to Dansoman before they called him and he drove to come and meet him.
He told this paper that, it was rather Baffour himself and Boah who came with the money to meet Lord Commey, but Mr. Baffour is now creating the picture as if it was him, he gave the money to.
Kris, however confirmed that, the money which was put in a brown envelope, was left on Mr. Lord Commey’s table at the office by Boah.
Meanwhile, efforts by this paper to reach Stephen Boah for his side of the story proved futile, as several calls placed to his Vodafone number were not answered at the time of going to press.
More To Come…
