It’s not our mandate to rebuild collapsed structures for disaster victims – NADMO
Director of Communication for the National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO), George Ayisi has explained that it is not within their mandate to rebuild the houses of victims of rain and wind storms or other natural disasters.
He told Alfred Ocansey on the 3FM Sunrise Morning Show, Thursday 16 June, 2022, that NADMO can only support victims with some bags of cement and roofing sheets for them to add on.
“It is not within our mandate to rebuild their structures for them. We cannot completely go in to rebuild their structures for them. It is not within our mandate; we support and give temporal structures to those who have lost their houses and give some relief items to those whose livelihood are affected. But for the major support for the community, central government will have to come in” he said
George Ayisi admitted that NADMO is challenged with funds and logistics and therefore appeals to government to fully fund their budget.
Windstorm and rainstorm on Wednesday 15 June, 2022 hit the Naaga Traditional area in the Kassena Nankana Municipality displacing thousands of residents and pulling down about forty electrical poles with connected cables.
The Police post and schools had their roofs ripped off as well as the health facility in the community was not spared. Several quantities of stored food items and precious valuables were destroyed by the rain and wind storms.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kassena Nankana Municipality, Joseph Adongo has appealed to all stakeholders and well-meaning individuals or organizations to come to their aid.
