Kumasi explosion: 3 injured, two cars burnt as GNFS report out  

The daring Firefighters from Regional Headquarters Sub-Station, KNUST, BOST, Metro and Ejisu Fire Stations have succeeded in containing the near LPGas tanker truck fire explosion at the Polytank factory using 1 hour 8 minutes after receiving the distress fire call at 1056 hours.

According to Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a preliminary investigation suggests that the fire erupted during the discharge of LPGAS from the affected gas tanker truck with registration number GC 4978-20 into the unaffected stationary bulk gas tank of the Polytank Manufacturing factory causing extensive damage to several manufactured Polytanks and a section of the Polytank factory block and its contents as well as some two parked vehicles nearby.

Greater portion of the bulk and the undercarriage parts of the LPGas tanker truck were badly burnt by the fierce fire while the head of the gas truck was unaffected by the fire.

At least three persons have been severely injured after a gas explosion incident at the Kumasi Shoe Factory in Atonsu Agogo on Friday, June 17.

The incident which happened around 11:00am also left two cars burnt. The gas tanker is reported to have been discharging fuel into the company’s cylinder when it caught fire.

This caused panic among many workers who rushed out to ascertain what was happening, resulting in the injury of the three victims.

Fire fighters are battling the flames as the area has been cordoned from the public for safety.

The injured have been sent to the hospital and are responding to treatment.

“We are learning two of the injured persons have been discharged; so, at least one is still there. Authorities of the Shoe Factory say they are still conducting preliminary investigations and would come out with more findings,” JoyNews’ Emmanuel Kwasi Debrah reported.

Meanwhile, GNFS reports that no known fire casualty yet as the near fatal fire has been finally knocked down whiles investigation continues to ascertain what actually led to the fire.
