Police secure injunction against Ejura riots anniversary
The Ejura District Command of the Ghana Police Service has secured an ex parte injunction against convenors of the commemoration of the deadly Ejura disturbances.
Led by #FixTheCountry Movement, the families of victims had scheduled a number of events to mark one year since the deadly incident.
They were going to clean the cemetery, where the dead were buried, and build a tombstone over their graves.
Dua’a prayers and Islamic Quran recitals were scheduled to be held as well.
But on Tuesday, June 28, the police proceeded to the Ejura District Court to apply for injunction on the events.
This was granted by Magistrate Dennis Eyram Fumey.
It is for a 10-day period.
The disturbances on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 were sparked by the death of social media activist Ibrahim Mohammed, known on Facebook as Macho Kaaka.
