Hearts of Oak legend Don Bortey advises club not to sack coach Samuel Boadu
Bernard Don Bortey has advised Hearts of Oak management not to fire coach Samuel Boadu and instead to support him in his continued success with the club.
Boadu, who joined from Medeama, has won five trophies in 15 months, but board member Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has been critical of the coach after the team failed to win the Ghana Premier League last season.
Hearts of Oak entered the season as defending champions but finished sixth, 19 points behind eventual winners Asante Kotoko.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe also doubts Boadu’s ability to lead the club in Africa as they prepare to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
Last season, the Phobians suffered humiliating defeats in CAF interclub competitions. They were defeated 6-2 on aggregate by Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the Champions League before being beaten 4-2 on aggregate by JS Saoura of Algeria in the Confederation Cup.
Bortey, on the other hand, has high hopes for Boadu and has urged the club to back him.
“Unless the coach wishes to leave his position, I will advise Hearts to keep him for the African campaign and next season,” Bortey said.
“Jones Attuquayefio had plenty of time at Hearts of Oak to excel. So, give Boadu time to assemble a formidable team for Hearts and focus on Africa.”
Boadu has said he has no intention of leaving the club.
