Management of Kasoa-based Division Two team, GAP Soccer Academy is happy the club has qualified for the prestigious FA Cup Tournament for the first time.
The FA Cup Tournament qualification is the first ever in the academy’s history, since its establishment as a youth football development centre in the year 2017.
The Ghanaian FA Cup, currently known as the MTN FA Cup for sponsorship purposes, is the top knockout tournament of the Ghanaian association football. The competition is played between the clubs of the Premier League, Division One League, Division Two League, Division Three League as well as Ghana Amateur Football Club Owners Association (GAFCOA).
Speaking to The Anchor, President of GAP Soccer Academy, Alex Agbesi Dzata-Aborge, was grateful to the management and general playing body, for their hard work and determination towards achieving this feat.
According to him, the qualification to the FA Cup will not be the end to the club’s determination, but rather, the Academy will push further to achieve more, and that requires all and sundry onboard to give out their best.
He noted that, playing in the FA Cup will not be an easy task, but with the support and prayers of the fans as well as the people of Kasoa, the academy would go far and achieve great feats.
The team’s Coach, Mohammed Baba Ali, on his part charged the players to focus and be disciplined both on and off the pitch towards the task ahead of them but stayed away from trouble.
GAP Soccer Academy was in good form during the just ended Central Region Division Two Middle League, from the beginning of the competition to the finish.
The team drew 1:1 with Ali Royals but has managed to win 6:5 on penalties against their opponents in their Group B play-off match after both had topped the group with the same points and goals.
The historic victory of that game, earned the academy an automatic qualification to the FA Cup tournament despite losing 2:0 to Kenpong Football Academy at the semi-finals.
