ALAN IN BIG TROUBLE
There is currently, uneasy calm within the support base of Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, following his continuous stay in office as Minister.
The Anchor is gathering that, some irate supporters of the Minister clamouring for his candidature as a flagbearer, are threatening to bus their members across the 16 regions to storm Mr. Kyerematen’s office in Accra, and force him to resign, if he fails to do so voluntarily, by end of September this year.
The supporters, made up of various groups numbering about twenty under a mother union called, ‘Identifiable Group for Alan-Kyerematen’ said, they want the Trade and Industry Minister to resign from the government, without further delay, to focus on his ambition to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 general election.
Spokesperson of the group, Abraham Boadi, popularly known as ‘Opooman’ told The Anchor in an interview on Tuesday, July 26 2022, that they are running out of patient over the continued silent and staying in office, by the Minister and, therefore, have given him up to the end of September 2022 to resign.
“We are about thousands; we (are) now preparing for about fifty buses to Accra. We are coming to the Trade Ministry to demonstrate that it’s time for him so he should step down. The delegates want him to come and say something; so he should resign and come to the grassroots, so that, we start our campaign”, he said.
Touching on the membership of the group, he said: “We are many, about twenty. We have Pearl Ladies, Alan 4-2-4, Friends of Alan, Patriotic for Alan, Precious Ladies, Queens Ladies”.
When asked if what the group is planning to do will not amount to putting unnecessary pressure on the minister, he answered, “oh yes”.
Nevertheless, Abraham Boadi explained: “We’re only notifying him that it’s time for him to resign. At least, if there are any circumstances, beyond his control that he cannot resign on the coming September, at least, he should say something to the group. Either than that, we will consider it that we are forcing him to resign”.
According to him, “whiles [Mr. Alan-Kyerematen] is working, the other people have been given state resources for doing their campaign; meanwhile you [Alan] are not doing same, because you believe the traditions and the rules of the game. So, it’s better for you to resign. So, if he thinks September is not enough, we want him to come out and say something that, he has agreed with our protest, but we should give him either October or November. For that one, we will be satisfied,” adding that, “But for not hearing anything up to that September, we will come there to demonstrate”.
When asked whether the group is mainly from the Ashanti Region, he said, “The group that we are talking about, Queens Ladies we have branches in Accra, Tema, and others. For Alan 4-2-4, we have branch in Tema, Accra, Northern regions, Hamile people [Upper West] are all organizing themselves. Their chairman spoke to me yesterday and others. So, all the identifiable groups that we are talking about, we have branches all over the country.”
“But those in Ashanti because people are saying that the Ashantis have declared for Number Two, we’ve proven to him he is our man; he is from the Ashanti region. And this time as we did to Kodua and Stephen Ntim, we will never change it. It’s going to continue that Ashanti region is for Alan-Kyerematen. And we will take him to go round to and do the campaign in other regions”.
NPP Not For Sale
According to Abraham Boadi, even though their candidate has challenger, no one in the presidential race, [they] will [not] sit aloof and allow the party be sold to the highest bidder.
“[Alan-Kyerematen] has no challenge,” he said, but “We will never sell this party to any other person. The party has a tradition. I’ve never ever supported Alan-Kyerematen before. I am Nana Addo’s Boy. Everybody knows “Opooman” in the Ashanti Region that I fought Alan-Kyerematen and his group, especially Dr. Anane and others; you can come to Kumasi and ask.”
According to the spokesperson, “I fought with them because I believe the tradition must work. I supported Nana Akufo-Addo because of the loyalty, long service, hard work and honesty of the party he always portrays to be. So, why do you have to change this time, that we campaign for Nana Akufo-Addo because of loyalty and long service and now Nana Akufo-Addo is bringing somebody who is being a member of 2007? It will never be possible,” he strongly stated, saying “so we’ve all come back to support Alan-Kyerematen because of the tradition.
MrBoadi indicated he resigned from his position as a Polling Station Chairman in Ahodwo Clinic under Nhyiaeso Constituency, to allow him fully focus and campaign for his preferred candidate and, therefore, he is no more a delegate.
“Now I have resigned because I am going to lead the campaign of Alan-Kyerematen and I’ve put someone that I trust in my position. I don’t want them to use the rules of the game against me that executives should not come out and campaign. Because I want to campaign seriously for Alan-Kyerematen”, he stressed.
He insisted that, they will resort to the use of force to prevail on the minister to resign, if he fails to voluntarily resign by the end of the ultimatum.
More To Come…
