ECG ToProsecute Recalcitrant Customers
The Managing Director of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Masubir Mahama, has served notice that the company would not spare defaulting customers and those engaged in stealing of power, when they are caught.
According to him, customers involved in such illegalities should be ready to pay the price for their actions, without fear or favour.
“If you steal [power] you have to pay the price for stealing. ECG reserves the right to prosecute recalcitrant customers”, Mr. Dubik Mahama said.
The ECG boss gave the warning yesterday, August 8, 2022, during the launch of Revenue Protection Visibility Program held at Legon District office of the company.
The launching of the team, forms part of revenue mobilization measures by the power distributor to detect, disconnect and prosecute recalcitrant customers, in order to generate much-needed revenue for the state.
According to the MD, ECG under his administration would not countenance any activity of customers that is counter-productive to the company; adding that, his topmost priority is revenue generation.
The Revenue Protection Visibility Program, will enable ECG to track all illegal connections done by customers, as well as, identify defaulters and make them face the full rigors of the law.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director also admonished the visibility team to exhibit high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing; “if you see something say something”.
“You should be very professional, as you go out. Please, keep your calm, people may provoke you but keep calm and make yourselves very visible and announce your presence and make your ID cards visible”, he cautioned.
The MD, however, advised members of the team not to engage in deviant acts that bring the name of the organization into disrepute, since they are the face and ambassadors of ECG.
He, therefore, directed all customers of ECG to cooperate with the visibility team, as well as, pay promptly, their electricity bills, and desist from all forms of illegal connections to avoid prosecution.
