Anlo Gets New Chief, Queen Mother
A recent controversial installation of new chief and queen mother by the people of Anlo, amidst legal tussle, has put the supremacy of the Awomefia of Anlo State, Togbui Sri III in jeopardy.
The new chief, TorgbuigaWenya III, a private legal practitioner known in private life as Ephraim Agbeko Vordoagu and an entrepreneur, Mrs Confidence Haugen, installed as MamagahAbuiBuiekpor II were outdoored at a colorful ceremony.
The coronation, which has since sent shockwaves through the indigenes, both at home and abroad, was held on August 13, 2022 at Tegbi in the Anloga District of the Volta Region.
Even though the coronation came on successfully, in spite of security concerns, it did not receive the full blessings of kingmakers of the Anlo State.
Many, including the War Lord of Anloland, AwadadaTogbiAwusu II were conspicuously missing at the ceremony, because they are allegedly not in support of the installation.
Some were of the view that, the installation was parts of clandestine attempts to undermine the authorities of the overlord, Togbui Sri III.
It is, however, not clear to a section of the elders, the capacity in which the newly-installed TorgbuigaWenya III andMamagahAbuiBuiekpor II would be representing the people of Anlo.
Prior to the coronation, the War Lord TogbiAwusu II in a statement signed on his behalf by an elder of Adzorvia Clan, Chris A-Ackummey, explained that the Anlo Kingdom never had any chief in its history known as TogbiWenya, as they questioned the capacity in which the new chief would be representing the people?
“It must be placed on record that the Anlo Kingdom never had any chief in its chequered history known as TogbiWenya. The records are there and attest to the fact [that] there has never been a TogbiWenya and, therefore, one cannot be created now.
We advise that until evidence is established of processes for selecting, nominating, installing and coronating earlier TogbiWenyas and made known to the people of Anlo and the capacity in which the newly-to-be installed Wenya would be sitting and representing the people of Anlo, the planned coronation must be put on hold immediately until further notice,” the statement stated.
According to the Awadada, the issue is sensitive and therefore, called on the masterminds to exercise restraints and build consensus among the feuding factions.
“This matter is sensitive to the unity and continued existence of our people. Therefore, the creators and pushers of this idea must of urgency halt all activities and initiate a move for dialogue to build consensus on the creation of such a chieftaincy position for the people of Anlo,” he stated.
New Dawn for Development
Meanwhile, TorgbuigaWenya III who is now the Dutor of Anlo said his dream is to help the Awormefia of Anlo and the Chiefs to have a university built in the Anlo State.
He noted that it is very necessary and important to have a university in the Anlo land, especially an ICT-based university which can help equip the youth with skills in that field.
According to him, instead of the youth having to travel out of the town to have tertiary education, they will rather receive it in the Anlo land.
He said university education now remains critical for the development of humans and provides the high-level skills necessary for the labour market.
TorgbuigaWenya III asked for unity among the Anlo Chiefs and the people in order to have the needed development rightly deserved by the land.
He urged everyone to forget about any kind of conflict and unnecessary issues that do not bring development to the land and rather focus on the goal to have a better Anlo.
TorgbuigaWenya III pledged to work in collaboration with the Awormefia of the Anlo State and other Chiefs to achieve the needed development for the area.
The Chief however called on all the traditional rulers in the Anlo State to come together to maintain the unity and cohesion of the area to make it a better place for all.
‘We need to avoid unnecessary disputes since there is strength in unity towards one goal,” he stressed.
He noted that it is time for Anlo to move to greater heights in developing the land by uniting and working with the main focus of achieving the desired goals.
TorgbuigaWenya III stated further that the time has come for Anlo State to put forward proposals and activities that will propel it to greater heights “and l need not fail you.”
Mrs. Confidence Haugen, now MamagaAbuiBuiekpor II said as a developmentally-inclined woman, women empowerment will be her vision.
She noted that women empowerment is very important for her Anlo women and girls and so will do everything humanly possible to make sure that her women and girls are well empowered.
MamagahAbuiBuiekpor II also pledged to make sure that every child in the Anlo State is well educated with the focus on the girl child.
“In a society where things are changing speedily, women are needed to help make things even better and so I am here to empower my dear women and girls and make sure every child goes to school,” MamagahAbuiBuiekpor said.
TorgbuiAkwaah III, Dutor of Alakple noted that TogbigaWenya III is a great man of the land from the rightful clan, chosen by the rightful kingmakers of the Loafe Clan.
The two went through confinement for eight days during which the kingmakers of Loafe Clan performed the necessary traditional rites and swore an oath of allegiance to be truthful and protect the land at all times.
The ceremony was under the supervision of the Paramount Chief of Klukor, Torgbui Addo and was attended by very high profile penalties from the media, showbiz and movie industry, traditional leaders families of the newly outdoored King and Queen and a host of indigenes of the land.
