Ministry Staff Busted for Impersonating Mireku Duker
The Ministries police in Accra, is holding a staff of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, for allegedly defrauding illegal miners of huge sums of monies, using the name of Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker.
The suspect, Gabriel Sarpong – an IT officer at the Ministry, was apprehended on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the Ministry, handcuffed and handed over to the police.
He allegedly succeeded in extorting in the excess of staggering GH₵200,000.00, from the illegal miners and other mining related activities in the name of the Deputy Minister, without his knowledge.
The Anchor has gathered that, a tip off by an accomplice, led to the arrest of the suspect, Mr Gabriel Sarpong, suspected to have been in his nefarious activities for long.
According to sources, the suspect upon his arrest, allegedly confessed to his fraudulent activities and pleaded for forgiveness.
However, the Deputy Minister, is said to have asked the security agencies to handle the matter diligently to ensure that, the law deals with Mr Sarpong severely.
Sources close to him, have hinted The Anchor that, the Deputy Minister, insists prosecution of the suspect, will serve as a deterrent to others involved in such criminal acts.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the Ministries Police Station, cooling off and is expected to be arraigned before court soon.
