17-Year-Old PRESEC Student Fakes His Kidnap
…Police Reveal, Disclose Attempts To Extort GH₵340,000 From Parents To Travel Aboard
The 17-year-old student of Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (SHS) at Legon, alleged to have been kidnapped, has been arrested, together with five others for staging his abduction and demanding a staggering GH₵340, 000 ransom from his parent.
The suspects, who are six and currently in police custody, included four juveniles from prestigious PRESEC, Legon and two adults, staged the kidnaping scheme to extort money from parents of the 17-year-oldto enable him travel abroad for greener pastures.
The student, was to have been abducted on March 28, 2024, while heading home from school in Obuasi during the Easter vacation.
But luck ran on their side, when Police intelligence led to their hideout, where they were arrested.
Police in a press release dated, April 5, 2024,identified the two adults in the group as, Isaac Kissi Adjei also known as ‘Kofi Black’ and Courage Teiko alias Timmy, but left out their ages and other details.
According to the Police, “Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the juveniles, in an attempt to extort money from his parents to enable him travel abroad, conspired with others to stage the kidnapping incident. In the process, they demanded an amount of Three Hundred and Forty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵340, 000, 00) as ransom from the alleged victim’s parents”.
This comes days after reports went viral about the kidnapping of the PRESEC student on his way home from school.
They allegedly threatened to sell his organs, should the parents fail to pay the ransom.
A post sighted on X by The Anchor read “A 17-yearr-old student from the prestigious Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon has been kidnapped. The student, whose name has been withheld, was abducted on 28th March, 2024 while on his way from campus to home in Obuasi”.
The Police statement confirmed that, family of the student paid GH₵20, 000, to the alleged kidnappers.
“In the process, they demanded an amount of Three Hundred and Forty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵340,000.00) as ransom from the alleged victim’s parents,” the release added.
“The Investigation further disclosed that the juveniles together with the two others succeeded in collecting an amount of Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵20,000.00) of the total ransom demanded,” they added.
The police, said they have informed the parents and guardians of the student, while investigation continues.
