NDC Youth Chase Leader
The youth front of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), appears to be disgruntled, following allegations that its leader, George Opare Addo, has been compromised by elements within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to persons within the party, Mr Opare Addo, affectionately called ‘Pablo Escobar’, is allegedly being fed fat by certain elements in government, who have been funding his activities, while acting as an opposition national executive member.
He is said to be enjoying more than even members of the governing party and appear not to care so much, if his party wins the December election or not.
Peeved members of the opposition party alleged, the recently opened youth secretariat located at Dzorwulu, a suburb of Accra, was allegedly rented by some people in the NPP and National Security.
For instance, in the Tuesday May 7, edition of the ‘National Enquirer’, a newspaper aligned to the NDC, went public with the issue by asking whether the allegation was true?
“Is It True That Someone In Nat. Security And One NPP Guru Rented And Paid For NDC’s Nat. Youth Wing Secretariat,”? the paper published
The claim, which has generated heated exchanges on social media, between supporters of Pablo and his accusers, has left observers wondering whether the party is ready for power.
Some have also alleged, the national youth organizer’s reelection last year, which was hotly contested by Ernest Yaw Brogya Genfi, was funded by elements in the same security set up and government.
In that election, the onetime Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Akwapim North, was accused of sharing lots of goodies, including cash and motorbikes to delegates, while many wondered his source of funding.
Sell-Out
A while back, journalist and editor of the ‘WhatSup News,’ David Tamakloe, without fear, also berated the leader of the NDC youth wing.
He shared on Facebook series of posts one of which read “Your ‘Pablo Escobar’ is a sell-out and blot on the chances of change. I don’t care how you take it. You can send him a screen short to get some coins for your survival”.
Another post by Mr Tamakloe reads, “The NDC is not going to win the next election with the youth in the heads of Pablo. I’ll tell you why soon”.
The chains of posts from the journalist, attracted good number of the party supporters and sympathizers many of whom were the youth.
While some agreed with Mr Tamakloe, others vehemently opposed the allegations, amidst vitriolic attacks from loyalists of the youth organizer.
Prominent among them was a loyalist of Opare-Addo, who did not allow the attack on his boss go unchecked.
The loyalist who goes by Facebook name, Boutrous Andy Kwaku Yirenkyi, fought back hard spitting fire. He wrote “David Sitsope Tamakloe tell us why you were sacked from Julius Debrah’s office last year? Thief and treacherous.”
Another post from him reads, “That dirty bush rat David Sitsope Tamakloe, is saying what? Make sure you can finish what you’ve started”.
The youth argue the NDC youth wing, has not remained the same since the contest between Brogya Genfi and Opare Addo about a year ago.
The two, have competed twice and in both cases, the latter triumphed. Brogya, who is a former Ashanti Regional youth organizer is now the Deputy Director of Special Duties.
He is said to be at war with people in the party, who he is aware campaigned and voted against him.
The bad blood between the two after the last national executives election, was resolved by former President Mahama. They say national Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, seems to be doing the job of the youth organizer.
A reliable source, also indicated that the youth organizer, hardly attends National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings. Even though he has denied claims that he is anti-Mahama, many still think otherwise.
During the NDC presidential primaries, Pablo, was said to be at the camp of former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffour, but here again, he has denied such claim.
While some of the youth decry the non-action of the youth front as the December election approaches, Mr Opare Addo, was yesterday seen with the running mate of the NDC, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, monitoring the ongoing limited voter registration exercise at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, where his office is located.
