The Principal Elders of Nii Kwaku Fitii We Family of Gbese in Accra, has rubbished accusations that former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Amasaman Constituency, Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea, defrauded the family.

According to the family, the allegations are false, without foundation and maliciously intended to defame the character and reputation of the former MP, hence should be ignored by the public.

In a statement, the Principal Elders, affirmed that it was the family who appointed and installed Nii Okai Laryea as Head of Nii Kwaku Fitii We Family and entrusted him full authority to manage the affairs of the family, including its properties.

The statement, dated July 18, 2024, was jointly signed by Paul Laryea, Head of Okai Laryea and Ofoli Mensah sub-families; James Adama Afful, Head of Amon Tse Akwetey Sub-Family; Enoch Armah Odai, Head of Ayi Kwame Sub-Family; Emmanuel Adotey Pappoe, Head of Aton Sub-Family; and Nicholas Narku Nortey, Acting Head of Tettey-fio sub-family.

The Elders stressed that, due processes were followed in appointing two term legislator since October 2018, after the demise of the then chief, Nii Kwaku Fitii III.

“We, the undersigned Principal Elders of the Nii Kwaku Fitii Family of Gbese, Accra, hereby submit this official statement of rebuttal in response to an article published in the New Crusading Guide on 11 July 2024, page 11, titled “Former NDC Amasaman MP dragged to Court For Allegedly Defrauding Fitii We”.

“We wish to bring the following facts to the attention of the public: That, the undersigned Principal Elders do hereby affirm and attest that Hon. Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea was duly nominated, appointed, and installed as the Head of the Nii Kwaku Fitii Family of Gbese in Accra on the 10th day of October, 2018,” the statement said.

It added “That, in his capacity as the legitimate Head of the Family, Hon. Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea was vested with full authority to manage all affairs of the family, including but not limited to the family house and family properties such as land”.

The rebuttal from the Nii Kwaku Fitii We Family, follows a media report accusing the former Amasaman MP of defrauding Fitii We to the tune of GH₵100,000.

The report claimed, Mr Okai Laryea, used his position to benefit personally from family property meant for current and future generations, stating that the ex-NDC MP, is being prosecuted at the Sowutuom District Court over the issue.

But the Principal Elders of Nii Kwaku Fitii We, insists the allegations are completely false and fabricated.

“That, we hereby advise and caution the general public to regard the article in question as false, without foundation, a mere fabrication, and maliciously intended to defame the character and reputation of the Honorable Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea, the legitimate Head of the Fitii We Family”.

It also clarified that, the family of Fitii We, has had no Chief since the passing of Nii Kwaku Fitii III.

“That, following the demise of the last recognized Chief of Fitii We, known as Nii Kwaku Fitii III, approximately seven (7) years ago, no individual has been duly nominated, appointed, and installed as Chief of Fitii We IV.

That, as such, it is hereby stated for the record that there has been no recognized Successor to the deceased Nii Kwaku Fitii III, a fact that can be corroborated by the Gbese Paramountcy, under whose jurisdiction the Nii Kwaku Fitii Family falls,” the family stated.
