Catholic Priest Apologizes After Leading ‘Aseda’ Hit Song At Church
A highly charged Ghanaian Catholic priest, who was seen in a viral video singing and dancing to the new secular sensation, King Paluta’s hit song ‘Aseda’, during a Mass Service, has apologized profusely to the leadership and the Church.
Revered Fr Peter Kusi Twumasi, who is also the acting rector of St. Stephen Rectorate at Bodomase in the Sekyere Kumawu district in the Ashanti Region, says he takes responsibility for his action and pledged not to repeat same mistake again.
The embattled preacher, who in the video led the congregation to loud singing and cheers, said his act was never in any way intended to disrespect the faith he so revered.
“Please know that my intention was never to disrespect our tradition or our faith. I am committed to upholding the values and teachings of our Church, and I fell short of that standard”, he added.
Rev. Fr Twumasi, said he is also aware of the trends on social media as a result of the video and the embarrassment it has caused the Church.
The purported unholy conduct, occurred during the Church’s liturgical space few days ago.
Though sung by a secular artiste, many had categorized the track as more of a gospel, than a worldly.
Rev. Fr. Twumasi, said he accept that he did not conduct himself well and allowed event to take the best part of him during the celebration.
He reaffirmed his commitment to preserve the values and teaching of the Church, admitting he fell short of that standard.
In an apology statement dated August 13, 2024, he said “I write to you with a heavy heart, filled with regret and humility. “I am notified that this incident has been amplified on social media, causing attention and embarrassment to our community. I take full responsibility for my mistake and assure you that it will not happen again.
I offer my sincere apology to our Bishop, the Dioceses, National Liturgical Commission and the entire Catholic Community for any offense or scandal caused by my action. I commit to being more mindful and discerning in my public expressions ensuing they align with the values and traditions of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.
