…Husband Threatens Take Legal Action Against Hospital For Negligence

A frustrated husband, Bismark Adom Haruna, is threatening to take legal action against a popular Teaching Hospital in Ghana, after a medical team that operated on his wife, mistakenly left gauze in her stomach during a Caesarean Section (CS).

According to the husband, the family only realized something terrible has gone wrong, after his wife who was discharged more than five days ago and stable, suddenly went unconscious with blood dripping from the cut where the CS was carried out.

He said, she was hurriedly rushed to the hospital, where upon several scans and labs, it was discovered that they had left a foreign material (gauze) her stomach.

Bismark, who sounded helpless said, all his entire savings had been spent, but his wife is still on admission since August 16, battling for her life.

Even though, he hinted of taking legal action against the hospital to seek justice for his wife, he said, he does not have the financial muscles to do so and therefore, appealed to the public for help.

The latest account brings to mind, a case earlier this month, where an Accra High Court, ordered the Greater Accra Regional Hospital also known as Ridge Hospital, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Ministry of Health, to pay damages of GH₵3million to a family for medical negligence.

The money was paid to one Muhammed Mustapha, whose wife died at the facility, following a Caesarean Section due to the negligence of the hospital staff.

In the case of Bismark, even though his wife survived, she is still battling for her life.

Scanty details gathered by The Anchor indicate, Bismark’s wife, visited the facility on August 6, to be delivered of a baby, but ended in the theatre for CS.

The CS until now, had been successful, even though the baby and mother were admitted at the hospital for three days before discharging them on August 9.

Bismark narrated that, things were fine and they had even visited the hospital for review on August 15, where they were declared perfectly fine.

In a post on popular social media platform, ‘Tell It All’, Bismark said things, however, took a different turn the following day August 16, when his wife was rushed to the hospital in his absence. in the belly of the woman, leading to heavy internal bleeding.

“She was at the maternity emergency as they were attending to her but asked me to run some labs and Scan and it was discovered that they left gauze in her stomach and stitched and also an internal bleeding so they sent her to the theater to open again and drained the blood and took off the gauze”, he narrated.

Bismark, is now cash trapped and urgently pleading for a legal assistance to take the hospital.

“And right from the 16th we are still in the hospital and I have spent all my savings yet we don’t know when we will be discharged yet everything is buying from medicine to labs.

I wish to sue the doctors who did the CS together with the hospital, but as it stands I don’t have the financial muscles and wish if any Good Samaritan could help me to seek justice for my wife”, he said.

Good evening family, please I have a pressing issue that is making me feel like taking my own life. My wife went to one of the teaching hospitals to deliver on 6th August 2024 and was sent to theater for CS on the same day around 2:00pm. After the CS she was admitted and discharged on 9th August and we went home and she returned to the same hospital for a review on the 15th August and they said everything was ok and on 16th I was not at home when a co tenant called me to come home immediately and I rushed home only to see my wife unconscious with blood dripping along the CS sore. My landlord took her with his car and we went to a private facility but was advised to send her to where we did the CS and we proceeded to the said teaching hospital. She was at the maternity emergency as they were attending to her but asked me to run some labs and Scan and it was discovered that they left gauze in her stomach and stitched and also an internal bleeding so they sent her to the theater to open again and drained the blood and took off the gauze. And right from the 16th we are still in the hospital and I have spent all my savings yet we don’t know when we will be discharged yet everything is buying from medicine to labs.

I wish to sue the doctors who did the CS together with the hospital but as it stands, I don’t have the financial muscles and wish if any good Samaritan could help me to seek justice for my wife.
