Luxury Apartments Pulled Down Midnight At East Legon

…Despite Pending Court Case, Owner Cries Foul 

A midnight demolition exercise, carried out by some individuals at Adjiringanor, near East Legon in Accra over the weekend, left about 10 newly built luxury apartments worth millions of dollars, being destroyed, despite a pending court action.

According to residents, the operation, was allegedly supervised by certain individuals clothed in police and military uniforms in the early hours of Sunday, April 7, 2024,leaving the owner of the property, George Oti Bonsu, traumatized.

The armed men, said to have been masked, arrived on the scene at about 2am on Sunday and allegedly ordered all caretakers to lie on the ground and confiscated their phones. They then proceeded to use two bulldozers to raise down completely, the structures on about one-acre land size.

The registration numbers of the vehicles used for the demolition were given as; CR-6703-23, CR-6703-23, UE-11-14, GA 1915-21, BA-1915-21 and 53GA75.

Mr Bonsu, who was the lead fundraiser of Mr Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary in November last year, had since reported the case to the East Legon police for investigation.

Pictures and videos of the incident, which have gone viral on various social media platforms, have set tongues wagging.

Insiders alleged, the demolition was carried out by men believed to be agents or assigns of one Hajia Aisha Ahmed, who is currently in court with Mr Bonsu over the ownership of that parcel of land on which the property was built.

The exercise was carried out in the wake of a pending litigation at the Adentan Circuit Court, where the same court, had already given a ruling a in favour of Hajia Aisha Ahmed.

However, George Oti Bonsu, had filed an appeal against the ruling and subsequently proceeded with a motion for Stay of Execution at the High Court, pending the determination of the appeal.

Court documents sighted by The Anchor showed, the “Motion On Notice For An Order For Stay Of Execution Pending Appeal” was fixed for hearing on April 16, 2024.

It was filed on March 11, 2024, by Farouck Seidu and Associates (IBADA Chambers) who are lawyers for Mr Oti Bonsu.

Surprisingly, perpetrators of the alleged illegal demolition, could not wait for this motion to be moved for the court to determine the appeal application.
