NPP’s Raphael Kumah Files To Contest Bole-Bamboi Seat

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Raphael Kumah Abolasom, has submitted his nomination forms to contest the seat in the December 7 polls.

He submitted his forms on Monday, September 9, 2024, to the Returning Officer for the Constituency at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) office at exactly 10: AM.

The young dynamic politician, was accompanied by party stalwarts, including current and former Constituency Executives, former Parliamentary Candidates, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Veronica Alele, Council of Elders and Patrons, family, friends, as well as party loyalists.

With a solemn procession, the entourage walked to the Electoral Commission office, where he filed successfully submitted his forms to formally mark his pursuit to snatch the seat, currently being occupied by the oppositional National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) Yusif Sulemana.

Speaking after filing, Mr Kumah, reaffirmed the New Patriotic Party’s commitment to a free and fair elections on December 7.

He expressed sincere gratitude to the party supporters, financiers, mentors, the youth, as well as his friends and sympathizers, who have been instrumental in this journey with him to ensure victory.

“To the many citizens and constituents who have placed their hopes and trust in our shared victory, I solemnly assure you that we will not disappoint you. We will forge ahead, march onto victory, and break the eight (8) – a sacred vow and duty that must be kept. I am confident that every stumbling block is surmountable, and together, we shall overcome them,” he assured.

Even though the Bole-Bamboi seat is considered as a safe one for the NDC, the appearance of Mr Kumah to the limelight as the NPP’s candidate, is said to be changing the narrative.

What makes Mr Kumah’s candidacy unique and timely in the NPP’s goal of breaking the ‘8’ is that, he is the first Parliamentary Candidate to come from the Bamboi area.

Historically, all candidates from both the NPP and NDC, have come from the Bole enclave, leaving the Bamboi side of the Constituency, underrepresented.

The NPP’s decision to select a candidate from Bamboi, the southern zone, is expected to change this.

In 2004, when media reports suggested that then-MP, John Mahama, had lost his seat, Mr Mahama dismissed the reports, stating that until results from his ‘world bank’ (the Bamboi zone) were in, he could not concede defeat.

This indicates the significant support Mr Kumah, can expect from the southern zone, along with the existing NPP support in Northern Bole.
