Prestea Chief Commends MD of Sankofa Gold Leadership

Nana Nteboa Pra IV, the Divisional Chief of Prestea-Himan Traditional Area in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region, has praised Justice Maxwell Acquah, General Manager of Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, a fully owned Ghanaian gold mining company for being a visionary leader.

According to the traditional ruler, Mr Acquah, affectionately called ‘Chairman Basty’ has done well by having the company at heart and brought tremendous change to the company and the community at large.

He, however, bemoaned that, despite the remarkable leadership and achievements of the General Manager, the Ghanaian owned company, cannot boast of its own concession to undertake mining operations to boost the local economy of the area and create more jobs for the youth.

“Unfortunately, Sankofa cannot boast of any land/concession to mine. If they should start to mine, it would boost the local economy, enhance royalty, create job opportunity for the youth, contribute to revenue, infrastructure development, and technological advancement, among others” the Divisional Chief said.

He therefore, pleaded with the government to allocate concession to the company, to enable it undertake full operations for the betterment of the traditional enclave of Huni Valley.

“I am pleading with government, to give acres of land to the company to mine for development to thrive in this area,” he pleaded.

Nana Nteboa Pra IV, made the plea when the Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, paid a visit to the area during his four-day campaign tour of the Western Region.

He pointed out that, “if the company is given the concession to develop, the town will be transformed totally as SMEs in the area will increase and affect the Internally Generated Fund of the assembly positively”.

In response, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the Vice President, praised Justice Acquah for bringing change to the company. “We have heard good testimony about him and how he’s been instrumental in the development of the mine and Prestea township”.

“We will give Basty all the necessary support to develop the mine. In fact, it is in our supreme interest to support Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited to obtain its own concession”, he added.
