Spend 4 Days A Week In Your Constituencies

Barely two months to the presidential and parliamentary elections, the leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a directive, mandating all its parliamentary candidates to spend a “minimum of four days per week” in their respective constituencies.

The party, also wants the regional campaign teams to send weekly reports to the national office, to ensure this directive is complied with and the campaigns are successful in all the constituencies in the various regions.

The directive is aimed at strengthening their campaign efforts ahead of the polls on December 7.

A statement issued by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Friday, October 4, said the party has observed that some parliamentary candidates are not consistently present in their constituencies.

It said that, the lack of engagement raises concerns about the potential impact on the party’s performance in both presidential and parliamentary elections.

“I bring you warm greetings from the National Secretariat. It has come to our attention that some parliamentary candidates are not consistently present in their constituencies for campaign-related activities.

The party views this matter with the utmost seriousness. Therefore, all parliamentary candidates, must spend a minimum of four days per week in their constituencies.

You should know that this lack of engagement, would significantly affect our electoral fortunes in both presidential and parliamentary elections,” part of the statement read.

He opined that the party, has taken the matter seriously and expects all parliamentary candidates to dedicate sufficient time to engage with constituents.

It in that regard also directed regional campaign teams to monitor and report on the activities of the candidates to the National Secretariat at Asylum Down in Accra.

“The regional campaign teams are hereby directed to submit weekly reports of the activities of their parliamentary candidates to the National Secretariat. We trust in your usual attention and cooperation in this matter,” the statement added.

This comes few months after the General Secretary issued a stern warning to appointees of President Akufo-Addo, who he lamented had lost touch with the base of the grassroots.

In a post after his tour of the Bono Region, Mr Kodua said these appointees have completely lost touch with the grassroots who make up the party. He cautioned them to get to work so he doesn’t mention their names publicly.

“Feedback from my tour of the Bono region shows that some appointees have lost touch with their base. Don’t force me to start mentioning names; do the needful”, he said in a post on Facebook.

Later in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the party, Mr Koduah, said he didn’t regret calling out these government appointees for losing touch with the party’s base and electorate in the region.

Speaking at the regional campaign launch he said, “In my post on Facebook I said some of our appointees have lost touch at the base and don’t regret saying that. I’m very disappointed in them. I have already sent the signal to them,’’ he stated.

He further stressed that “when I get to Accra, I will start engaging them one on one to let them know. Next time I will come in public to mention their names,’’ he warned.

He pointed out that “the New Patriotic Party is contesting the presidential election to win and any obstruction within the party will not be accepted. No single individual can hold us down,’’ he lamented.
