Mr George Mireku Duker, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency in the Western Region, has commissioned the third astroturf field for residents of Simpa Nkwantanan, a suburb of Tarkwa.
The latest edifice, which was commissioned on Saturday, November 2, 2024, in the presence of traditional leaders and members of the community at a short ceremony, was filled with joy and excitement.
The Simpa Astroturf, together with three others currently at finishing stages, bring the number to a total of six astroturf fields constructed by the lawmaker for his constituents.
It forms parts of the MP’s grand plan, to make the Tarkwa municipality a key sports infrastructure hub in the country, to unearth talents towards development of the country’s football, as well as other sporting disciplines.
In a recent interview with the media, Mr Duker said, “Together with six (6) Astroturfs I have constructed in the Constituency, Tarkwa-Nsuaem is now a key sports infrastructure hub in the country to unearth talent and contribute to socio-economic development of Tarkwa and its environs”.
The MP, whose brilliant idea, saw the construction of recently commissioned 10,400 capacity TNA Stadium in Tarkwa, solely funded by Goldfields Foundation, a subsidiary of Goldfields Ghana Limited at a cost of $16.2million said, he would not relent on his duties as representative of his people.
Duker, who doubles as deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in-charge of Mining, explained his vision is that, Tarkwa cannot be a victim of the natural resources curse.
Rather, he will enjoin all stakeholders to ensure that mineral wealth, through corporate social responsibilities of the mining companies and government, is invested in critical infrastructure and job opportunities for the teeming youth, having in mind that, the mineral is non-renewable, and sustainability is key.
“I am humbled by the commendations by all constituents on my significant role in the establishment of the beautiful TNA stadium,” he acknowledged during the inauguration event.
He also hinted that he has initiated the formation of a consortium of firms within the Tarkwa enclave to build synergies towards the construction of a befitting Airport for the good people of the Mining City.
The Tarkwa Airport when completed will boost trade and tourism potentials of the Municipality.
Duker, also seized the opportunity to pledge to his constituents that, he will continue to deliver cutting-edge developmental projects for the constituency in appreciation of their trust and believe in him.
