NLA Commends Lotto Operators For Paying 20% C’ssion
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has commended the Ghana Lotto Operators Association (GLOA) and the Private Lotto Operators (PLOs), for complying with the directive to pay 20 percent commission to the regulator.
It follows an earlier directive by the NLA to the executives of the two bodies, “that effective 14th October 2022, they are to fully comply with the payment of the Lotto Commission, not exceeding twenty percent (20%) as determined by the Board of the National Lottery Authority and agreed by the PLOs, pursuant to Section 28 of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722).”
But, a statement issued yesterday, November 2, by the management of the NLA acknowledged a publication by GLOA and PLO, for instructing lotto writers to comply with the directive or lose their license.
“The Authority has taken cognizance of the publications by GLOA and PLOs instructing their Writers to comply with this directive or forfeit their license. NLA highly applauds GLOA and the PLOs for enforcing this directive,” it said.
The authority assured the two stakeholders that it will deploy its taskforce, in partnership with the security agencies, to ensure that the directive to pay 20 percent Lotto Commission is fully complied with nationwide.
The NLA warned that it would be forced to exert its right and power to revoke the licence, deny renewal of same or ban offenders for a minimum of five years if this directive is not adhered to.
“Management of NLA would like to reiterate that, by this directive, NLA shall deploy its task force in conjunction with the security services nationwide, to ensure full compliance with the payment of the 20% Lotto Commission.
“Failure and/or Refusal to comply with this directive shall result in NLA exercising its statutory mandate to revoke the License, not renew same, and/or ban the Lotto Operator from operating for a minimum of five (5) years, without prejudice to any other rights in and at law,” the statement said in conclusion.
