Police Inspector Forgets Gun In ‘Trotro’
A police inspector with the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF), Sulemana Adam, who left his rifle in a public transport, popularly called ‘trotro,’ after he allegedly extorted money from the driver, has been interdicted by the police administration.
According to a statement from the police in the Western Region, signed by Head of Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Olivia E.T. Adiku, the action is “to allow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
The statement, dated Saturday January 28, said, “The interdicted officer, Inspector Sulemana Adam, stationed with the Rapid Deployment Force, Takoradi in the Western Region, has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to allow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Both the Inspector and the driver are assisting the investigation.”
Earlier reports said that the incident occurred after the said officer took a hundred Ghana cedis (GH¢100) bribe from the driver of the vehicle.
The driver, who initially reported the incident to Takoradi-based Connect FM, said he was made to pay the said amount for wrong loading.
“I loaded passengers from Coast to Takoradi,” he said.
“When I got to Takoradi around 8:30pm on Friday, a police vehicle with about five officers stopped me. They alighted all my passengers and told me I was under arrest and that I will be taken to the office to be processed before court, which I agreed.
“On our way to the police station, they stopped and told me that if they should take me to the police station, I will pay GH¢500 and my vehicle will be locked until Monday. They then told me to pay GH¢150 and I pleaded with them to have mercy upon me. They told me I was not serious and that the only way they would allow me to go is GH¢100 for a last price. So I paid the GH¢100 and they left me to go and continue my work.”
According to the driver, he later realized one of the police officers who entered his vehicle had left his gun in the front seat.
“I could not work again because they had taken all my money for the day. I went home and realised the police officer had left his gun in the vehicle. I have not been able to work for some time because of the gun lying in my vehicle,” he added.
The gun has a number boldly written at one side. The other side has inscription (CZ805 BREN – made in Czech Republic).
4 Arrested For Robbery, Murder
In a separate incident but in the same region, the police have arrested four persons who attacked a fuel filling station and murdered a security guard in the early hours of Saturday, 28th January 2023 at Wassa Agona.
According to the police “the suspects, Francis Ebuka, Wisdom Justway, Samuel Chibuzor and Kingsly Okechuku, alias Kofi Kingsly, in the course of the robbery also subjected the fuel attendants to severe beatings and made away with an unspecified amount of money, together with the filling station’s CCTV Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and mobile phones belonging to the victims.”
Upon receiving information concerning the robbery attack, police patrol teams within the catchment area mobilized and proceeded to the scene and in the course of the operation arrested suspects Francis Ebuka, Wisdom Justway and Samuel Chibuzor, who were fleeing the robbery scene on a motorbike.
The police said a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a black hood, a handbag containing two mobile phones and an amount of GH₵20,722.00.
“The police team further pursued the fourth suspect, Kingsly Okechuku, to a hotel near Bogoso where an amount of Forty-Four Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Two Cedis (GH₵ 44,852.00), suspected to be part of their booty, was retrieved from him.”
Other items recovered from the suspects include the DVR components of the CCTV setup, stolen by the suspects, together with two pinch bars and a Ghana Card belonging to one of the victims.
All four suspects are currently in police custody. The four arrested will be put before the court accordingly.
