Alan Cash Begs For Cash To Support Campaign

…Launches Fundraising Campaign Today

Veteran flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, popularly known as Alan Cash, appears not to have the cash after all, as his pet name suggests and resonates in the minds of the masses on the street.

The Anchor is informed that the former Trade and Industry minister is set to launch a crucial fundraising campaign to solicit funds to support his quest to become the governing party’s presidential candidate in next year’s general elections.

Though not new, many are intrigued on the lip side, wondering why a man who prides himself in being the one with the money, will be turning to Ghanaians, both home and perhaps abroad, to fund his year-long presidential ambition.

A flier of the programme, designed with a portrait picture of Mr. Alan Kyerematen, sighted by The Anchor and shared on many social media platforms announcing the fundraising said, the launch will take place today, Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 9:00AM at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) in Accra.

The flier was also shared on the official Facebook page of the ex-Trade and Industry minister, inviting all and sundry, particularly his sympathizers, to come and support.

It has two hash tags, #KetewaBiaraNsua, #AdoptConstituency.

He wrote, “Fellow countrymen and women, please join me for the official launch of the Alan Cash Donation Platforms on Thursday June 8, 2023, at the Accra International Conference Centre, Accra. Time is 9:00AM.”

The Anchor has observed, Mr. Kyerematen’s version of the digitized retail fundraising campaign dub,“Alan Cash Donation Platforms,” is one of the ways political parties and politicians make public how they are funded and also to promote transparency in order to avoid corruption and bribery allegations.

The launch, insiders told The Anchor, was to have been held last week, but it was rescheduled for today.

Earlier in May, this year, he unveiled an online application to mobilise funds for his presidential campaign.

The ‘KetewaBiaraNsua Campaign’ app can be downloaded at www,alankyerematen.com. The name translates to ‘no contribution is too little.’ Donation can also be made by dialing of *713*242# to start the process.

It is expected that the “Alan Kyerematen For President 2024,” will provide the details of the initiative during the launch this morning at 9 o’clock.

The event is expected to attract people and interest groups from all walks of life.

Some of them will be politicians, businessmen and women groups, traders, traditional leaders, party enthusiasts and all who believe in the dream to have Mr.Kyerematen lead the NPP and later become President of Ghana.

In the past, political parties and presidential hopefuls and aspirants have gone on this path to raise funds for their campaigns. They even went to the extent of raising these funds abroad from the various Ghanaian communities.

The likes of President Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama have launched similar campaigns for this reason.

Then opposition leader of the NPP and now President, Nana Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are on record to have launched similar campaigns home and abroad for this purpose.

Mr. Mahama, who is staging a comeback as the next President, launched a similar one recently to fund his campaign to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 general elections.

It is alleged that it was part of this fund that he released to pay transportations of all delegates from far and near, who took part in last month’s presidential and parliamentary primaries of the NDC.

This latest line of action by the campaign team of Mr.Kyerematen follows the picking up of nomination forms by some market women on May 31, 2023, after the party activated the process to choose its next leader.

He thus became the eighth flagbearer aspirant of the NPP to pick his nomination forms to contest the party’s presidential primary slated for November 4, this year.

The forms were picked on his behalf by two teams of 15 each of market queen-mothers from Accra and Kumasi.

They paid the GHc50, 000 fee required for Mr. Kyerematen to participate in the upcoming NPP presidential primaries.

The action fulfills a pledge made by the market queens to Kyerematen in January, 2022.

Leader of the Kumasi Tomato Sellers Union, Comfort Abena Serwaa, said they decided to pay the nomination fee for Mr.Kyerematen to show that they trust in his capacity and ability to lead this nation.

“We decided that we won’t allow Mr.Kyerematen to pick his forms, we will put resources together and pay the fee for him. So we are here to pick the forms for Alan so he can become the President of Ghana,” she explained.

Mr.Kyerematen resigned from his position as Trades Minister in January 2023 to focus on his presidential ambition.

Madam Abena Serwaa said it was their firm belief that when Mr.Kyerematen got the nod he would help bring Ghana’s ailing economy back to its feet.

On his part, Mr.Buaben Asamoa said the presidency would move on to the right path with Mr.Kyerematen in the driving seat “for he’s a man of action and not mere words.”

Alan Cash, 67, made his first attempt to lead the NPP to succeed former President John Agyekum Kufuor, in 2007, but failed in his bid, as Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emerged as the winner in the ensuing flagbearer race.

Mr. Kyerematen made other attempts in 2010 and 2014, but was unsuccessful again.

As the first minister of President Akufo-Addo, he has been championing the government’s “One District One Factory” initiative, since 2018, reportedly birthing about 170 factories across the country.

It was under his leadership that Ghana also witnessed the production of local vehicles by auto giants, such as Suzuki, VW, Nissan and Sino Trucks, under the Automotive Development Policy.

By close of nomination, some 10 presidential hopefuls had picked up forms.

They include the Vice-President Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia; a former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko; former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimo; a former Minister of State, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a businessman and energy expert, Kwadwo Poku; former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto; former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey, and Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
